Black Friday? How about Giving Tuesday?

Syndicated from: Daily Bread Food Bank

Tired of Black Friday already? How about creating a new tradition and giving back to charities in your community with Giving Tuesday? On December 3, charities across the country are encouraging people to give back by donating or volunteering their time this holiday season. December 3 is the ‘opening day of the giving season’!     Giving Tuesday began in the United States in 2012 and helped online giving increase by over 50%. That’s a lot of charities able to do a lot more good in the community. For Daily Bread, it means we can provide more nutritious food to people who are struggling with hunger. It means we can continue to help people with other issues, such as social assistance, affordable housing, employment and disabilities through programs like Information and Referral Services, our Food Services Training Program and our Community Garden. It means we can expand successful programs like that in to our member agencies to help even more people to the point where they no longer need a food bank. Want more information on this great event? Check out GivingTuesday.org. And don’t forget to donate to Daily Bread. You can drop off non-perishable food donations to your local fire hall, or donate online by clicking here. Our Holiday Drive runs until December 31st, and we’re looking to raise $2.5 million and 1 million pounds of food. Help us fight hunger and feed families this winter.
