Defining your success

Syndicated from: Canadian Youth Business Foundation

Karen Milde, Reframe Marketing, Vancouver, BC, CYBF Mentor Success means different things to different people, which is why it is important for you to define success for yourself, such that you are not continually comparing yourself to others. Common definitions of success are wealth and reputation, but sometimes even after achieving those things, people feel unsuccessful.  Through my own success, I have learned how to be happy and comfortable in my own skin. I found this extremely challenging however, due to societal pressures and the fact that as humans we have our ‘up and down’ days. I have realized that by being happy and comfortable with myself, I naturally am able to work towards achieving whatever goals I set for myself. Even when the goal is extremely challenging to meet, I find my happy-go-lucky nature working in my favour. I work towards making even the most challenging experience enjoyable, such that I don’t let it affect my physical and emotional health. Not only that, when I am happy and comfortable with myself, I find that I attract parents, children, friends, spouses and others, as they want to be around me because I am a positive influence. They hope that I can share my happiness with them. I find that as long as I can stay positive, whether going through good times or bad, I can (and have) experienced success. Ultimately, I know staying positive can give me that balanced lifestyle I am looking for and is the root to providing me with the energy to give back to people, communities, companies and society.
