I came across Nic Askew’s work a few years ago when he started Monday9AM films, which are poignant and wonderful short films of both ordinary and extraordinary people reflecting on what makes them tick. Nic and his films were part of the inspiration for The Great Work Interviews series, so I’m excited to talk to Nic about what is Great Work for him, and how he ended up doing the work that matters to him today. Nic’s current project is Soul Biographies, which are short films that capture the experience of being human. He lives in Minneapolis with his wife, kids and dog and he works from the attic, finding “peace among the chaos” as he says. Nic and I have a great conversation about: His winding path – from canoeing the Congo and the Amazon, to CEO, to filmmaker The difference between goals that you think you should have, and your true heart’s desire Cultivating a sense of wonder in your life and work Why Nic isn’t trying to convince anyone of anything in his films, or get a million hits on YouTube Visit www.soulbiographies.com to watch Nic’s films and learn more about his work.
