Perfecting your elevator pitch

Syndicated from: CYBF

Rose-Marie Almond, Cobourg, Ontario, CYBF Young Entrepreneur & Mentor An elevator pitch is something every entrepreneur should have prepared and ready to roll off the tongue whenever an opportunity arises – you never know where you’ll meet your next customer. The best length of an elevator pitch is often argued. Personally, I find it hard to keep someone’s attention for more than 20-30 seconds. Remember your pitch is an effort to sell yourself and/or your business, so the faster you can answer the following questions, the more clear, organized and efficient you appear: Who are you? Your name, position, company… What do you do? The need that you address, the purpose of your company… What qualifies you to do this? Awards, academic qualifications, customer feedback… How are you unique? What you do differently than the competition… Again, who are you? People will often blank your name until their interest is piqued… It is critical to make your pitch short and succinct and to deliver it with confidence. Practicing it with family and friends will help ensure you address all the obvious questions that people will have about your business.
