Senate Public Bill to amend the Payment Card Networks Act PrintDecember 18, 2013Liberal Senator Pierrette Ringuette has reintroduced a Senate Public Bill, now numbered S-202, to amend the Payment Card Networks Act. Specifically, Bill S-202, if passed, would cap credit card acceptance fees paid by merchants at 0.5% of the value of the transaction. The fees would be capped at lower levels for credit card payments made to charities (0.0%) and government institutions (0.3%). This Bill, then numbered as S-215, was introduced in December 2012 during the last Session of Parliament but died on the order paper when Parliament was prorogued on September 13, 2013.
